Our Review

If you’re family has been bugging you about getting a pool, but you don’t have the finances to set up a permanent metal-framed pool, the Intex Easy Set Pool just might be the solution. Designed to be the go-to pool for those with a tight budget, this blow-up pool will give you the same enojoyment as a regular pool with even a fraction of the cost or maintenance.

Cramped for space? With the Intex Easy Set Pool, space won’t be a problem. As long as you have at least 10 feet of level ground in your yard you can set up this pool. It’s perfect for those cramped backyards in the city, where getting a regular pool is an impossibility.

Design

The design and construction of the Easy Set pool is really very basic. You have an inflatable ring around the top of that pull that, when water is added, lifts up. As this ring lifts up, the liner of the pool extends up with it. There’s no posts that have to be driven into the ground or any pipes that have to be assembled.

Material

The walls of the Easy Set pool are made of a 3-ply system of laminated PVC material. These walls are thin, so you do have to be careful that nothing punctures them. The top ring is made of the same material most inflatable toys are. This material is heavy-duty and can withstand a lot of pressure. Also, it is designed to not be effected by the temperature, though the temperature will still affect the air inside.

Setup

Setting up this Easy Set pool is just that; easy. In fact, it’s so easy that many can do it alone. To start, be sure you find a level place in your yard. If it’s not level, the water in the pool will tilt and be more likely to flood over the sides.

Once a level spot is found, lay down the ground cloth. (If one didn’t come with the package you bought, a standard tarp big enough for the pool to sit on will do.) This helps to ensure that no sharp objects or stubborn weeds can poke through the bottom of the pool.

What is so great about this portable pool is that no ground work is required to set it up. In fact, because of the nature of the design, it is recommended that you not set it up on sand or loose dirt. This would only cause the pool to shift and cause damage and flooding to your yard.

Once the ground cloth is set, simply unroll the pool and inflate the top ring. Most of the packages won’t include a pump for this. Also, it’s not recommended to use your own air. After all, who has that much hot air? Right? Instead, any standard hand pump will work. Even a pump from an air mattress will work to inflate.

While you inflate it, try to spread it out as much as possible before you began filling it. Once the ring is fully inflated, it’s time to start adding water. This part is where many consumers mess their pool up. It’s important to remember that, as you fill the pool with water, you need to spread out the bottom of the pool until it all lays flat. Failure to do this will cause the bottom to be uneven and could lead to the pool’s demise.

Over all, setup only takes around 15 minutes before you are ready to start adding water. This time can change, however, depending on the size you purchase.

Filter

It’s important to note first, when talking about the filter for the Easy Set pool, to pay attention to the details on the package you buy. Some packages do not include a pump system with them while others do. While not having a pump and filter system wouldn’t be the end of the world, it would mean more time and money spent keeping the pool clean and clear.

With that being said, that being said, the pump and filter combo recommended for these pools are the easiest, most simple, pool pumps there are. There’s no worry over backwashing the pump to get the grime off the sand or worrying about turning the multivalve the right way as to not cause damage. No. These pumps actually have no multivalve.

They operate solely with a “type A” filter cartridge, making is cheap and easy to operate. If you do purchase one of the bigger sizes, you may find it work better to purchase a small sand filter, though this will be totally dependent on your desires. Simply put, you change out the filter cartridges about every 2 weeks. However, this is done more often during high usage periods, especially if there is algae or other debris present.

Some who own these easy set pools try to make their filter cartridges last longer by rinsing them with a garden hose. While that does help clean them, this should only be done if they are able to be cleaned completely. Do not reuse them if there are any signs, at all, of debris still on the filter. Also, never use chemicals to clean the filter. This will mess with you water’s pH.

Maintenance

Beyond the filter system, maintaining the Easy Set pool is extremely easy, especially if you’ve ever spent the time and money maintaining a regular pool. The same chemicals can be used with these pools as you would a regular pool. Therefore, if you chose to go the non-chlorine route, it will work in these pools as well.

Also, if you want to increase the longevity of the pool, there are a few things you should remember to do. First, after every use, be sure to wipe the inflated ring down with a wet cloth. Many have found the hard way the chemicals from sun screens and lotions will actually cause adverse reactions with the material of the ring if left on there for a long period of time.

Also, never leave these pools up over the off season. They are not designed to brave the cold temperatures and will definitely become damaged. Taking it down, though, is just as easy as setting it up. Just be sure to let it dry completely before storing it.

Over all, if you are wanting a pool on a budget, these Intex Easy Set pools are amazing. With their ability to set up in such a small place, families all over are finding they have the ability to enjoy a pool without costing a large investment. With so many options in sizes, and shapes, every family can find the pool to fit their needs. If you’re still on the fence about wanting to buy a pool, give this one a try. It’s the perfect pool for beginners to get their feet wet.
